John Howes MBE

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the passing of our former President John Howes MBE.

John was a strong supporter of the club from its very early years and became our club President in 1992. A post for which he held office, until last year, when he stood down due to ill health.

Our club has been extremely honoured and proud to have John as our President for such a long time. His dedication to supporting the activities of our youngsters in the club was second to none. He was extremely enthusiastic about the teaching and training of Life Saving techniques to young people, not only to help them in their adult years, but to make them much better people as a result.

In 1996, John dedicated an annual award known as the “President Award” with the inscription “The Giving of One’s Self in the Interest Of Others” was just typical of John in everything he did.

I for one was proud to have known him and he was someone I looked up to and held with high esteem.

John you will be greatly missed!
