EDOWSC Tues Safety Cover 2026
DETAILS:
A chance to provide safety cover for swimmers at East Dorset Open Water Swimming Club on Tuesday evenings at Shore Road Beach.
Two paddlers are required each Tuesday evening and you will each get £10 cash for providing safety cover. We do need to have 1 over 18 year old paddler on each session, but the min age is 14 years.
Paddle craft and paddles will be provided, but best to bring your own wetsuits, wetsuit boots, kag tops and buoyancy aid (see our club PLG if you don't have any)
All paddlers signing up must meet the age requirements and be capable of the following
- Competent on a sit on top kayak / board / kayak / ski
- Capable of providing cover for the entire evening.
- Comfortable with occasionally needing to launch kayaks into strong on shore winds with reasonable surf conditions.
- Be capable of self-rescue back into / onto the paddle craft, so as to be able to continue with the safety cover.
- Paddle against strong long shore winds to enable to follow swimmers to either Canford Cliffs or Sandbanks and back, depending on which direction they swim on each evening.
- Comfortable with approaching a swimmer bow on, and allowing them to grab hold of the bow of their kayak / board for support should they require it?
- Able to identify the reason for support and if necessary, escort them or assist them to the shore line.
- Maintain a visual with the swimmer face (eye contact) at all times whilst they are holding onto the bow of the paddle craft.
- Be of 14 years of age or above.
