Kayak Training Day

https://www.rlss-poole.org.uk/members-area/club-volunteers/?sheet_id=112

After the huge success of last year’s Sit on Top Kayak Training, we are planning to arrange another one on Saturday 12th July, with a fall back date of Saturday 19th July, should the weather prevent the first date going ahead.

This is an excellent opportunity for our members to receive some qualified kayak training. This will be a fun day on the water using our sit-on-top kayaks, whilst teaching personal skills and canoe lifeguard skills, with the aim of building confidence in paddling abilities.

One of the reasons behind this day is that we have a number of open water swimming events that the club provide safety cover for each year. This is our main purpose as club, to help the community, but we can’t do it without our members assisting with the safety cover either on Safety Boats or on our Paddle Craft.

We would therefore like to offer out this training day to build up confidence and paddling abilities in our members so that you can hopefully join us on these safety cover events and assist the club helping the community! Although is not a condition of taking part.

The training day is not limited to novices or beginners, it is open to any club member, of any paddling experience, to join us for a great day but, unfortunately it is restricted to those in school yr9 or above – no upper age limit and unfortunately to only 12 people as that is all the kayaks we have got. So, first come first serve.

Whilst the cost of this training day is free of charge, John Wheeler (from RLSS Boscombe Lifeguards) is giving up his day to come and deliver this day for you. So, it would be very nice if you could all bring some money (say £5 each) so that we can cover the cost of his parking and also get him a little something as a thank you. We will also have two of our own club member (Pippa Marchant and Sam Travers) shadowing John on et day, so that they can provide instruction on future courses as they as are kayak instructors themselves.

The link below is to sign up and book a place – as already mentioned places are limited to 12 kayaks so remember, first come first serve!
